Obsessions....

If you are anything like me you have found objects that you obsess over....those things that become what you collect....and if you are anything like me some obsessions come and go and some linger on.

Vintage Gem Tintypes.....One of my favorite things....

Good Morning Everyone,

I love gem tintypes, antique photo albums, cdvs, cabinet cards.....any vintage image really.  What I found very recently is that I have an abundance of some of these so you will see more of them listed in my Etsy Shoppe, A Vintage Season.

These little gem tintypes are wonderful for your jewelry projects and for the larger collages where you need just a touch of "something" to bring the work to life.  I just LOVE them! 

Here is a bit of history of the Gem Tintype:
The form of tintype (also referred to as ferrotype or sometimes melainotype) known as a "gem" is a small photographic image usually anywhere from 3/4" to 1" wide and 1¼" high made possible by the use of a multi-lens camera with repeating back which therefore could produce multiple exposures on a single photographic plate. In terms of quantity, the gem was the most prolifically produced form of photograph in the 1860s in America. Aside from the speed of its production, the gem was also inexpensive and its small size made it suitable for mounting in jewelry such as lockets and brooches. Like daguerreotypes and ambrotypes before it, hand colouring was also possible and rouging of the subject's cheeks was the most common form of this.

Summertime and Vintage Loves.....

I love the summer....the flowers, the smell of fresh mown lawns, the fireflies, the shade of a tree and the beach.  The heat....well that I'm not too keen on.  <smile> 

One of my favorite things to collect is vintage postcards.  It began as an obsession to collect Christmas and Halloween postcards and then I fell in love with them all.  Luckily there are many area antique malls and shops that carry a wide variety of them that don't cost too much so I am able to add to my collection frequently. 

How does this tie into Summer?  Well, I've fallen in love with the vintage floral postcards.  I love the colors of them and I love that people actually wrote letters and notes on these and sent them through the mail.  I can imagine the excitement of receiving one of these beauties and it kind of makes me sad that we don't correspond in that way any longer.  A lost art perhaps but does it really  have to be?  I know when I received my mail art from Kecia it truly made me smile and made me feel very special that I was worth the time of not only creating it but also of mailing it.  <smile>
