My son, Phil always loves it when I put stories about him in here, especially those dealing with him while he was growing up. He will be just delighted to see another one today.
Some time after the great red brief adventure, he got into this habit of taking a shower without actually getting wet. I think he must have stood at the far end of the shower and turned the water on and steamed himself until the hot water ran out. This seemed like a waste of good hot water to me, so after he had been steaming for what I considered long enough, I would go down in the basement and slowly cut the water off at the hot water heater. It worked every time.
Maybe of my favorite stories was when he had this goldfish that lived forever. Well, it didn't really. Whenever his mother or I would find the fish belly up, we would flush it, go up to Woolco and get another one. After he got married, he was telling his wife about this long lived fish. This happened in front of his mother, who spilled the beans. She said the look of betrayal on his face was priceless.
Speaking of fish....
Dad's Famous Original Tuna Salad
1 or more cans of tuna
1 egg for each can
1/4 to 1/2 small onion for each can
Mayonnaise and Miracle Whip
Salt, pepper, and Tabasco to taste.
Put the eggs in a saucepan with a top and cover them with a 1/2 inch of cold water. Bring to a boil, cut the heat off, cover the pan and let sit for 12 minutes. Meanwhile, mince the onion and drain the tuna. We have determined that StarKist solid white albacore works best for us. Put the pan in the sink, take off the cover and let cold water run into the pan until the eggs are not too hot to touch. Peel the eggs under running water. Put the eggs in a bowl and mash them up with a fork. Add the tuna, onion, and some mayonnaise and Miracle Whip. The reason we use both is that I like mayonnaise but not Miracle Whip, but Lesley only likes Miracle Whip. This way we both feel like we get what we want. So what if it doesn't make sense. Keep mashing and stirring, adding more mayo and MW until it is a little more liquid than you would like. It will firm up in the fridge. Season to taste. It is best if it sits in the fridge for a couple of hours.
