A couple of years ago I was fortunate enough to find myself taking an awesome class with Kerin Gale and Charley Slaughter.  Kerin and I became fast friends and when I traveled to Portland to teach and we went antiquing together that friendship was solidified and it has continued to grow and develop.  I was lucky enough to have the opportunity to talk to Kerinny during the writing of her book, The Inspired Remnants Curious Dreams, and of course I was in awe of all of the beautiful creations that were flowing from her mind through her hands and out of her studio.  

Kerin's book is like no other that you will find and the techniques and processes that it opens up to you will simply blow you away.  It is amazing what can be created using the Epoxy and Apoxy Clays and I promise it will open up a whole new world to you and may well take you in an entirely new direction with your art.

My first experience using the apoxy clay was in the Vintage Gentlemen class that Kerin and Charley offered at Art and Soul in Hampton.  It was amazing how easy it was to work with the clay and I found myself thinking of all of the ways I could incorporate it into my art before I ever left the classroom.  That's how inspired you will be when you see the projects in this book...projects that will have you returning over and over to Kerin's book for new projects, tips and tricks and inspiration.

After taking a class where I created bezels using metal and soldering I thought I would try make bezels using the Apoxy Clay.  This was my first project that I created in my studio using the apoxy clay.  I am teaching the Bezels of Beauty at Art Is You in both Danbury and Petaluma....check them out at:  www.art-is-you.com and come join me in  making some of these wonderful bezels!!

Yay it's Friday!!!

Back in the swing of things...for a bit....

Good Morning Everyone,

Hope that this Wednesday morning finds you doing well and that your creativity is overflowing.  :)

We just arrived home from Art Is You in Connecticut and it was an amazing time.  From the class I took with Kecia to the two classes I taught and everything (and I do mean EVERYTHING) in between I feel like my creativity has been running on high octane for days and that is a very good thing.

My time at the retreat began with an afternoon class with Kecia and then it was on to making make and takes.  I chose to make these wonderful set of three boxes with Taryn and I was able to sit between Sharon and Colleen and we had a wonderful time cutting, gluing and decorating.

Friday morning began early with a wonderful breakfast and then off to set up for the first day of teaching (The Keeper of Secrets & Dreams).  I am always amazed at the different styles of work that come out as everyone begins creating and let me tell you these ladies made the most beautiful tins and booklets that you can imagine.  What a wonderful group of women!!  Thank you all for sharing your time with me and for allowing me that space inside your creative soul.

Friday night was the Pop Art and I was supposed to go but we decided to go ahead and set up for vendor night so that we could sleep in just a bit since I had no classes to teach that day.  Well, we got about half way set up and then were just too pooped out so we went to bed early and slept until about 8:30/9:00 Saturday morning which was fantastic!!!  I finished my angel for the auction and I absolutely fell in love with the wings that were created for her...she was like this cross between an angel, butterfly and fairy...what a beautiful combination.  We set up a bit more and then decided to go out and have lunch with Linda from Collage Closet.  Tom found us a wonderful Mexican restaurant and then ice cream for dessert...it was such a wonderful time.

Then back to the venue, completed setting up for vendor night, bought some wonderful things, sold some wonderful items and also sold several more angels and several of my necklaces and wall hangings.  I will be taking a couple of angels, several necklaces and other goodies to Texas to sell so hopefully that is one less box to pack.  :)

Saturday night ended with me winning two of the silen auction items.....Colleen's Glenda and Judy's box of beautiful goodies.  I went to sleep with a smile on my face and counting creative ideas.

Sunday morning marked my second and final class (Inside The Vintage Album) and again the most fantastic work was completed by these amazing women.  I loved the completed pages and loved that they were already planning what pages they would be doing once they arrived back home.  Don't forget to send me pics ladies!!!!  Please.   :)  More creative souls opening to allow me a window into their magic....how do you thank someone for that????

Sunday night was dinner with Jo Packham of Where Women Create.  Let me tell you Jo's story is such an inspiration and I left that night with a much deeper commitment to myself and my art.  I also left with a huge determination to quiet that doubting thomas inner voice that sometimes arises..you know the one...harsh and ugly words that someone may have said to you but after time the mind tapes take on your own voice.  If you ever have the opportunity to hear Jo speak and tell her background and her vision for the future please grab it....you will NOT be sorry.  :)

Then Monday morning we were up and packing for the drive home.  It was hard saying goodbye but I never doubt that I will be back to this place with these faces creating more beauty.  That's a good feeling to have.

Love all of you!!!  Thank you for making my time in Connecticut amazingly amazing.

In case you have not read about it my friend Renee Troy invited a group of artists to come together to participate in creating a most wondrous book.  29 artists came together (I feel very fortunate to be a part of that group) to help benefit Bernie Berlin's A Place to Bark.

WHO WE ARE
A PLACE TO BARK is a no kill foster and adoption rescue dedicated to the welfare of animals and was founded by Bernie Berlin. Established in 2001, we mainly work with Animal Control Agencies, rescuing animals from high kill shelters and fostering them until they are healthy. This provides an ideal situation for the animals. They are then placed for adoption through Humane Societies in various parts of the country. We cover all costs for the medical care of the animals with no cost to the Humane Societies. We also handle some private adoptions after a strict screening process.

OUR MISSION
A PLACE TO BARK'S mission is to provide assistance and care to animals in need. Working together with other animal welfare agencies, uniting & each doing our part to create a win/win situation for every adoptable animal that comes into our program.

We are a new shelter concept, tackling an old problem. A Place To Bark is a temporary home, a foster facility that provides quarantine, full vet care, rehab & training to help adoptable animals further in the adoption process. All animals rescued are spay/neutered to reduce the future population & by saving existing lives, our program encompasses all vital actions needed to benefit the pets in need.

Our dedication is to creating a program that could be the next step towards a no kill nation. By building bridges and networking together, we hope to see a future of ending the unnecessary killing of animals.

Being published.....

Good Morning Everyone!

Last night as I was doing a bit of updating on our computer and dealing with tax stuff I received an email from Beth at Sew Somerset.

This gem of an email that brightened up a dreary evening was sent to tell me that two pieces that I submitted to them are going to be published!!!  <smile>  I have to say I am feeling very excited and very blessed.

Some of the same techniques that were used in these pieces will be taught at Art & Soul in Hampton, Artiscape in Ohio, Lisa's in California, KCs in Colorado and in my classes at Art-Is-You in Connecticut!!!!  Hope you will check out the classes and join us!!

News From The Studio...

Hi Everyone!!!

I thought I would post this morning about some news from my studio......

First off I am getting geared up to vend in New Jersey at Art Opera and in Columbus, Ohio at Artiscape - both of these are held in April so have some time yet but you know how time flies!!!! (The links to these sites are in the bar under my banner).

Speaking of Artiscape I found out yesterday that one of my classes has filled up (can you say woohoo!) so I am very excited about that!!!!  If you live anywhere near Columbus or you are able to travel you should check out the awesome classes and events that Lisa has lined up.....www.artiscape.com.

1.  Creating the Perfect Background - In this class we will be using fluid chalks to create backgrounds and to add texture and depth to them.  From romantic to dramatic this is a class that everyone will enjoy and benefit from.

2.  Affirmation Necklace - In this class we will alter a small tin by aging and embellishing it.  Then we will create our affirmation collage.  Finally, we will use either vintage or newer beaded necklace to make our affirmation tin into a necklace.

So the news is...

Happy Friday Everyone!

Well, I know I hinted at some good news the other day and I am sorry that I have not been able to blog about it before now (some kind of icky bug got me) but here it is.....

For those of you that have attended Artiscape in the past or who have thought about it or who have never even heard about it .....wellllll.....I will be teaching there in April, 2010!!!

Artiscape is being held in Columbus, Ohio and it promises to be a truly inspirational experience for everyone involved.  From the pre-conference workshops and Welcoming Gala to the Outsider Art Fair and Mad Hatter Tea Party and everything in between, including the Marketplace, this retreat offers something for everyone!!

There are field trips, dinners and the Artiscape Studio - a special place has been reserved for you- with work tables and places to lounge; the Artiscape Studio is yours to come play, work and visit with other attendees 24 hours a day. Located on one of the top floors of the hotel, the suite offers sweeping views of Columbus, internet connections and a flat screen TV.
